29-Aug-2024: Initiatives on Waqf Amendment Bill, 2024

Immediately after the Waqf Amendment Bill, 2024, was introduced in Parliament, the Chairman of IMCR held a press conference at the Constitution Club, New Delhi, on 29 August 2024. The Chairman briefed the media about the dangerous and detrimental provisions of the said Bill. It was clarified that the proposed Bill does not serve any purpose as far as improving the administration and management of Waqf is concerned. Rather, it aims at snatching/usurping the Waqf properties in a number of ways. It was also pointed out that if the present Bill is passed and implemented, the number of Waqf properties, which are around 8 lakhs or so in the country, will come down to a few hundred only in a year’s time. The Chairman made it clear to the media that the IMCR is against the whole Bill. It rejects it and seeks its withdrawal by the government.
