IMCR has been sending its teams to locations affected by hate crimes. A team of professional activists will be deployed to remote areas to guide and educate people on effective ways to counter hate and false narratives.
What is an Islamophobic Crime & Hate Incident?
If you’ve experienced a crime, it’s also a hate crime if you think the person’s behaviour was motivated by Prejudice or Hate against you:
because of your Religion, Caste or Race.
because of your Sexuality.
because you’re Disabled.
Example of Islamophobia includes:
it’s a Hate Crime if someone assaulted you and used Homophobic language or threw a brick at you or your property and wrote Racist Graffiti on your house or at Masjid (Mosque), Gurudwara or Madrasa (Schools) or any other Place of Worship.
It’s still a hate crime if someone made a mistake about your identity. For example if they attacked you because they thought you were Muslim, but you aren’t.
What is Discrimination?
It is discrimination to treat you unfairly compared to someone else because of your religion or belief. This is called direct discrimination and is illegal.
Examples include:
refusing you a bank loan because you’re Muslim, other Minority or Dalit. refusing to allow you into a restaurant because you are a Dalit SC ST.
Refusing to give you a Job or dismissing you from work because you are from a Minority or weaker section of Society.
refusing to allow you into a restaurant if you’re wearing a Hijab or Turban.
requiring all your employees to dress in a particular way if this means they can’t wear an item of clothing they regard as part of their faith.
